We are so thrilled to have Fort Collins’ & CSU’s very own Ram’s Point Winery as part of the Blendings at The Preserve opening.
Ram’s Point Winery was the brainchild of Dr. Stephen Menke, a molecular biologist and winemaker. When Dr. Menke started in 2008 as the first Enologist for Colorado State University (CSU) and the Colorado Wine Industry Development Board (CWIDB). he outlined a comprehensive development plan that included a commercial & educational winery. The winery is designed as the primary vehicle for training students and interns in best winemaking and winery business practices, as well as providing a location for enology research and outreach.
Blendings at The Preserve will be pouring a 2017 Traminette. The winery designed this white wine to be fruity with a little bit of acid to enhance the food pairing experience. Crisp and fruity, this wine goes perfectly with seafood, white pasta sauces, pork and chicken dishes. It can also handle spicy foods so try a glass with some Thai food and you won’t be disappointed.
While this particular varietal is not for sale as it was made specially for Blendings at The Preserve, there are a number of outstanding wines available on their website,www.ramspointwinery.com and you can find them several Fort Collins liquor stores. We asked Dr. Menke what his favorite wine is and he gave us the perfect answer:
The wine in front of you that was paid for by someone else.
We agree! Here’s a hint though – if you see him around, Northern Colorado, buy a glass of Chambourcin or a Petit Verdot for this winemaker and he’ll be all smiles!
